Born in Colorado Springs. Every 2 or 3 years we moved to a new town. I went to 17 different schools. Ended up in Denton, TX for college. That’s where I live now, with my wife Bethany and son Eli (and Miles, who will be here in May 2011). Most of my years have been spent day dreaming, creating worlds, solving problems, reading books, enjoying music, loving Jesus, loving others. I don’t see that changing anytime soon…

Chasing the Butterflies
Today was a good gardening day at the big Estate. The sun was bright and sunny. The butterflies were flying happily. Then the butler told me I had to catch butterflies for the boss’s 15 year old daughter – for a school project. So in the afternoon I chased butterflies down by the creek. I caught one moth-like bug: small and somewhat butterflyish. They were hard to find today. I was running around with a fish-pond net. I also caught a blue dragonfly, but he got away. Oh, well. ‘Tis the life of a gardner. . .right? (at least where I work).
Oh Gardener,
Go down by the creek
And gather all that you see
The Butterflies that fly free

Get them one by one
Catch them all until there’s none
Of the Butterflies that fly
Down by the creekside

Worry not about the flowers in the garden
Worry not about the grass that grows green
Concern yourself not
With any gardening thought
The Butterflies must be caught by the evening

So I’m chasing the Butterflies
and all the while the garden dies
As it breathes it’s last breath
in a slow and thirsty death
